Drop the pan. Measure how much fluid you got out. Add maybe another pint for the filters. Put that much new fluid back into the trans.

All we require / recommend is a simple pan drop and refill. That is sufficient, especially if your fluid is still in good shape. Removing the filters and allowing it to drain for several hours can help to drain more of the fluid from the converter (although that still won"t remove as much fluid as a flush, since the converter can only drain down halfway).If you want to do a flush (to extract as much of the old fluid as possible) that is fine, just probably unnecessary in most cases. To do a flush, disconnect one of the cooler lines (between trans and Thermal Bypass Valve, if you have a TBV in the middle of the cooler lines), plug the return side going back to the trans (so it doesn"t suck air), do a normal pan drop, refill the trans with new fluid without starting the engine, then start it up and add new fluid as you pump old fluid out the cooler line. Once you"ve drained 5 quarts (for gas engines) or 8 quarts (for diesels), the converter is flushed and you can reconnect the cooler line and top off the fluid level.
