I have a 2011 Malibu LTZ the heat blows hot, the air blows cold but everything blows out through the defroster vents, do I have a bad mode door actuator part #9996 or some other problem? Dealer wants almost $1000.00 to fix it and says that the whole dash has to come down and out and its mostly labor. Help.pls.thx.
Mode actuator is on the left side of the HVAC case. You are supposed to take the dash out to replace it. I can"t say for sure, but you might be able to work your way in there to get it out without all the work of taking the dash out.
what was the design team smokin" the day they put that actuator mounting screw way up high on the hvac box? someone, somewhere, has found a way around pulling the dash to replace that motor. this same hvac box is used in a ton of different models.

Did you look at it? Is it just so you can"t get there or is it fairly accessible? I did a left temp door actuator on an Impala, same thing, they tell you to take the lower I/P out but you can get to it as it is.

2011 CHEVY MALIBU 6 CYL-The actuator motor on the right side of the Glove Box- clicking/thumping does NOT go to DEFROST- BARELY ABLE to get my hand on it, and feel it clicking and thumping, cant get any tool in there. How do I get to it ?? will removing the glove box do it ??? Or does the dash have to be Pulled ???
