You are watching: Firing order for 390 ford engine

Hi males,I have a Cobra with a Ford FE390 engine in my shop. The distributor is marked with numbers and if I think these numbers ( clockwise ), the firing order is 1 5 4 3 7 2 6 8. Is this correct ? I assumed, that the correct firing-order for these engines is 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8....Thanks,Stephan

They can be in the best area, just numbered incorrectly if they dubbed the cylinders something different. Also the distributor rotates counterclockwise not clockwise. Rewire the cap and plugs to match the correct firing order and also you have to be excellent to go. Acetone is good for cleaning off sharpie if they marked the cap through it. Good LuckMike

you"re correct
Looking dvery own on the dizzy at the front of the engine - rotor rotates counter-clockwise.Correct order is: 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 unless someone has actually set up a different firing order camshaft, although I"ve never heard of someone doing that to a Big Block in all my years of working on them. :001_rolleyes:Doc :beerchug:
